• Is the BBA the same as the Bay Recreation league?

    No. The BBA travel program is not affiliated with the Bay Recreation Department. 

  • Does my child need to attend a Bay Public School to participate?

    No. All players are welcome as long as they reside in Bay Village. 

  • My child is involved in multiple activities. What are the expectations for participation?

    The BBA requires a high level of commitment from players.  Attendance at practices and games is crucial. 


    It's expected that players make every effort to prioritize travel basketball over other activities while in season, such as CYO or other sports.


    Missing or being late to practices and games may result in reduced playing time.


    Continuous absences may affect future eligibility in the program. 

  • When do practices, games and tournaments begin?

    Players can expect 2-3 practices per week, depending on gym space, starting late October and ending mid-February. 


    Regular season games start in December. Teams will typically play two games each Sunday.  Saturday games could be possible.

  • When will teams be announced?

    Teams will be announced within 2 weeks of tryouts. 

  • How does the team selection process work?

    BBA forms two teams per grade—an A team and a B team—with approximately 10 players on each roster. Because space is limited, not every player who attends tryouts is guaranteed a spot.


    Players are evaluated by two to three BBA board members, with input from the appropriate Bay High School boys or girls basketball coach. Previous coaches may help organize drills and scrimmages, but final decisions are made by the BBA board with input from the high school coaches.


    Evaluations consider ball handling, shooting, defense, basketball IQ, effort, teamwork, coachability, and positional versatility.


    The A team generally includes the highest-rated players, but selections are not based only on ranking players from first to twentieth. Team balance also matters. For example, if several top players are point guards, they may be split between teams so each has capable ball handlers. The same applies to height and post players.


    Players are strongly encouraged to attend their scheduled grade-level tryout. A makeup date may be available, but the primary tryout is the best way to compare players directly with their peers.
